UPDATED: State Highway 2 near Baypark is now open after a multiple vehicle crash forced the closure of the highway earlier.

Emergency services were called to the three-vehicle crash in the northbound lane around 9am.

A police spokesperson said the crashed blocked the lane while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one patient, in serious condition, was being taken to Tauranga Hospital.

“An additional patient, in minor condition, was assessed and treated at the scene.”

According to Google’s Live Traffic Reporting, traffic was stalled in the Mount Maunganui-bound lane just before the SH29A intersection.

NZTA reported on its website that, “due to a crash on SH2, the road was closed westbound at the Te Maunga Interchange”.

The roading agency said the road was now open.

“All lanes have now been opened. There was a tail back of traffic, but is now flowing well,” a spokesperson said.
