Emergency services were called to two separate crashes in Tauranga on Saturday night, including a two-vehicle collision in Mount Maunganui that left one car ablaze.
Police said staff were alerted to the crash on Totara St, between Puriri St and Matai St, about 10.45pm.
“After the occupants got out of the vehicles, one of them caught fire,” a police spokesperson said.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it received a call at 10.46pm, dispatching two fire trucks from the Mount Maunganui and Tauranga stations.
Northern shift manager Gareth Lewis said the incident involved two cars, one of which was on fire when crews arrived.
“There were no persons trapped,” he said.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the crash at 10.42pm and sent three ambulances, a rapid response unit and a manager to the scene.
“Our crews assessed and treated three patients, who were transported to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition,” a spokesperson said.

About an hour later, emergency services were called to a second crash in Freyberg St, Ōtūmoetai, after a vehicle struck a tree.
Lewis said Fire and Emergency received the call at 11.53pm and sent three fire trucks from the same stations.
“On arrival we confirmed it was a single car crash and there were no persons trapped. We assisted police and ambulance,” he said.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the crash at 11.53pm and sent one ambulance, a rapid response unit, and a manager to the scene.
“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition.”
Police said the vehicle was towed, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
