Roading crews are planning to show some love to State Highway 36 this Valentine’s weekend.

A 2km section of SH36, between the SH36/Kennedy Road roundabout and the SH36/Pyes Pā roundabout, will be chipsealed on Saturday February 14 and Sunday February 15, between 7am and 7pm.

The work will be undertaken during daytime hours due to the proximity of nearby homes, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said in a statement.

“The level of noise would be too disruptive for local residents for overnight works.

“Delays are expected within the work area during the day, so motorists are encouraged to use an alternative route if possible, of which there are many.”

Stop/go traffic management, lane diversions and a temporary speed limit will be in place while the worksite is active, NZTA said.

The temporary speed limit will remain in place overnight to keep everyone safe.

“Once the work is completed, measures will remain in place to ensure the chipseal beds in properly. The site will then be swept and the linemarking will be reinstated,” NZTA said.

“Delays could be encountered on Monday February 16.”
