Man arrested in Pāpāmoa by armed police

Armed police have arrested a man in Pāpāmoa after he allegedly presented a firearm at a person ton Saturday afternoon.

Police said they were notified of a man allegedly presenting a firearm at a person on Doncaster Drive at 1.30pm.

“After initial inquiries, an 18-year-old was located on Parton Rd a short time later.

“The man was taken into custody without incident, where an imitation BB gun was located.”

Armed police were at the scene and the road was cordoned off as a precaution.

Video of the arrest shows the man, wearing a red hoodie and grey shorts, slowly walking and holding his hands up behind his head while carrying an object.

He momentarily kneels as three police cars surround him. Officers can then be seen exiting their vehicles.

The man is set to appear in Tauranga District Court on February 13, charged with presenting a firearm at a person and unlawfully carrying an imitation firearm.
