All staff working at the Mount Hot Pools and neighbouring campground were uninjured when a deadly slip came crashing down into the facilities on Thursday morning, Tauranga City Council emergency management duty controller Gareth Wallis says.

Wallis said Bay Venues, Tauranga City Council's facilities arm, had seven staff working at the Mount Hot Pools at that time. They were being supported and cared for.

"Bay Venues will continue to wrap around the team and have been providing professional support as they process this serious incident."

The council also owns the Mount Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park, where six people are believed to have been killed in the slip.

Wallis said 12 council staff were working there, including holiday park and city operations staff. They were also being supported by the organisation and professional services.

"We’d like to acknowledge the efforts and bravery of all staff, campers and community members who assisted with the immediate response until emergency responders could arrive, including the swift evacuation of the Mount Hot Pools and caring for customers until they were able to go home," Wallis said.
