Four people have been taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, following a crash on State Highway 29.
At 1.20pm emergency services received reports of a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of State Highway 29 and Ōmanawa Rd, Ōmanawa, police said.
A spokesperson confirmed “one person is reported to have serious injuries”.
“Traffic is flowing in both directions currently.”
Hato Hone St John was notified of this crash at 1.23pm.
Two ambulances, one operations manager and one rapid response vehicle responded to the scene, a spokesperson said.
Five patients have been assessed at the scene.
“One patient has been transported to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition,” St John said.
“Three more patients have been transported to hospital - two in moderate condition and one with minor injuries.”
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said one crew was called to the crash between a car and a truck about 1.20pm.
“All people were out of the vehicle and staff were helping with scene protection.”
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi reported the road is blocked.
In a highway update, the roading agency said caution is advised.
