Powerco crews will continue to work into the evening to fix damage caused by strong winds at the weekend in western Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Peninsula.
“The severe weather has caused significant damage to the network, and our crews are working in trying conditions, with multiple trees down over poles and lines, to restore supply,” Powerco Head of Network Operations, Mark Dunn, said.
“Unfortunately, the extent of repairs that are needed, means that some customers should again prepare to be without power overnight. We understand how disruptive it has been to be without electricity, and we truly appreciate customers’ understanding as our crews continue working long hours to restore supply.”
Progress has been made today, with the number of outages down to just over 1,100 by late Monday afternoon. On Sunday morning, more than 15,500 customers were left without power because of the storm.
The largest outages currently involve:
- Ōpoutere on the Coromandel Peninsula – 452 customers, where crews are working to fix multiple faults
- Ōnemana on the Coromandel Peninsula – 36 customers affected, lines down
- The Minden area of western Bay of Plenty – 176 customers affected, lines down
- Kaitemoko, in western Bay of Plenty – 59 customers affected, lines down
- Apata, in western Bay of Plenty – 49 customers affected, lines down.
