Dangerous driving reports from motorists on State Highway 29 led police to arrest a man allegedly more than four times over the legal alcohol driving limit.
The 23-year-old man is due in Tokoroa District Court today charged with breath alcohol over 400 mcg/litre of breath and driving with a suspended licence.
Police praised motorists in a Facebook post for alerting them to “this appalling behaviour”, reported at lunchtime on Thursday, July 24.
Footage caught by a motorist and released by police, shows a car drifting over lines on both sides of the lane on SH29, narrowly avoiding multiple collisions with cars and large trucks.
“We were able to stop the vehicle and breath test the driver,” said Inspector Mike Henwood, Waikato East Area Commander.
“The breath test showed this driver was more than four times the legal limit.”
People who see illegal or dangerous behaviour on the roads, were asked to call 111 if it’s happening immediately, or make a report via 105 if it’s after the fact.

Call 555 for traffic incidents, but definitely use 111 for dangerous activity.
