The year has kicked off "splendidly" for the Pāpāmoa Rotary club with their 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament exceeding expectations, club member Rod Keucke said.
“The tournament raised over $45,000 for our community projects,” Keucke said.
“Pāpāmoa Rotary were once again delighted to have the Bluehaven Group and Brian and
Loretta Johnstone from Mitre 10 Pāpāmoa partnering with them in running its 12th Charity Golf Tournament held on Friday March 28 at the Omanu Golf Club.”

Twenty-nine teams took part in the Ambrose event and honours this year went to the winning team “Rural Retirees” which was sponsored by Geoff Mathis.
This year the tournament raised over $45,000 to add to the $250,000 the event has raised in the past eleven years for local youth charities and organisations based in Pāpāmoa and Te Puke.

Keucke said Pāpāmoa College principal Iva Ropati was the guest speaker for the after-game function.
“He talked about the challenges for their students and the goals that they aspire to. He is passionate about his role in achieving the best for every student and thanked Pāpāmoa Rotary for the huge assistance they give to the College.”

Previous recipients of the funding have been scholarships, Dictionaries in Schools project, Graeme Dingle Foundation, Driving Awareness courses for youth, Bike Safety in Primary schools, Pāpāmoa Surf Club and many other local community organisations.

“Pāpāmoa Rotary is extremely grateful to the major sponsors and the support of over 50 businesses and individuals. This is an amazing commitment from the supporters to youth initiatives,” Keucke said.
