Emergency services are at the scene of a serious single-vehicle crash at Lake Okataina this afternoon.

Police say, the crash occurred about 2.30pm on State Highway 30, between Curtis Road and Lake Okataina Road.

The highway will be closed for several hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.

Motorists are asked to delay their travel or expect significant delays.

A SunLive reader says their family member is stuck in the traffic and the road has been closed for four hours so far. 

NZTA says SH30 is closed between the intersection of SH34/SH30 and the intersection of SH30/SH33 following a serious crash near the intersection of SH30 and Lake Okataina Rd.

NZTA advice to avoid the area if possible.

There have been reports of a crash on State Highway 30 by the intersection with Lake Okataina Rd. 

This incident is blocking the road.

Delays in the area are likely.

Diversions may be required.
