Volcanix wrap up season with loss to Hawke's Bay

The 2023 Farah Palmer Cup has wrapped up for the Volcanix with a 28-35 loss against the Hawke's Bay Tui on Sunday.

The muddy game at Rugby Park in Whakatane was tight all the way through, with the half time score 15 to 14 to the Bay of Plenty team.

“Our wahine have been epic role models this season,” says a Bay of Plenty Rugby spokesperson on their Facebook page.

“What a day to wrap up the 2023 Farah Palmer Cup! Unfortunate loss against @hawkesbaytui,.

“A massive mihi to our supporters, thank you for coming out in today’s weather - we appreciate you.”

Volcanix team members Hayley Church made her debut and Grace Parata-Stewart made her blazer game in the Week 6 match of the Farah Palmer Cup, which is sponsored by Bunnings Warehouse.

Gates opened at 10am, with the Nga Kura A Iwi U18 Girls v Pacific Island Rugby U18 Girls kicking off at 10.30am and the Volcanix v Hawke's Bay kicking off at 12.05pm.

The battle between Bay of Plenty and Hawke's Bay isn’t yet over, with the much-anticipated Battle of the Bays match between the Hawke's Bay Magpies and Bay of Plenty Steamers coming up on Saturday, September 9.

Hawke's Bay Rugby with support from match sponsor One NZ will allow free entry to the public which will see the biggest rugby crowd in recent history converge on McLean Park, Hawke's Bay.

The event is designed to support Hawke's Bay, particularly residents who have been affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and organisations who have been key in response and recovery.

Tickets will be available via https://hbmagpies.flicket.co.nz/ from 9am Monday, August 21.

Kick-off for the Battle of the Bays match between the Magpies and the Steamers is at 4.35pm on Sunday, September 9, at McLean Park.
