Mount Maunganui, Te Puna, Tauranga Sports and Te Puke Sports will fight out the BOPRU 2023 Baywide premier title after the qualifying competition concluded on Saturday.

The Maramatanga Park main attraction between Te Puna and nine time Baywide titleholders Tauranga Sports, saw a close contest in the opening forty minutes.

Te Puna led 18-13 at the break, before cutting loose in the second half to score 31 points, to finish with a 49-20 win.

Defending titleholders Mount Maunganui re-inked their credentials with a 35-5 victory over Greerton Marist.

The 30 point victory ensured that the Mount Maunganui name would be engraved on the Western Bay Sub-Union challenge prize of the Jordan Cup, as the 2023 season-ending holder.

Te Puke Sports making the post-section title race with a 45-8 win over Rotoiti.

Rangataua and Rangiuru, who can both look back at a century plus history since inception, continued their long rivalry at Te Ariki Park.

Rangataua scored two touchdowns in the opening 10 minutes, before the visitors asserted their authority with four consecutive tries.

Rangataua came back on the cusp of halftime with their third try - to see Rangiuru lead 28-19 at the break.

Rangiuru went hunting for the ball all day and their best effort came when Kolinio Gonebale charged down a clearing kick to post his teams third try.

Ten points apiece in the second half produced a final score of 38-29 to the visitors.

Judea can be well pleased with their season finish, posting their second consecutive victory, beating Katikati 24-10.

Katikati will return to Western Bay rugby after finishing with the Baywide wooden spoon.

Bay of Plenty Rugby officials will confirm the semi-final draw early next week, after a final points table audit, with Mount Maunganui and Te Puna provisionally finishing with 48 points each.
