Armed police attend disorder at Mount Maunganui

UPDATE 11.01am: One person is being transported to hospital in serious condition after a disorder on Maunganui Road.

A police spokesperson says they received the report at around 9.30am.

"Police are armed as a precaution," says a police spokesperson.

A SunLive reader at the scene say they saw a fight happening on Maunganui Road.

"There were about eight gang members. They headed onto the road creating conflict with another gang," says the SunLive reader.

"They had hidden a machete used in the fight in a rubbish bin as well as using some road signs to smash a ute's windows in as well.

"Other witnesses stated they heard gunshots and bullet holes in the ute too but this was towed before I could confirm."

Police say enquiries are ongoing.

Earlier, 9.50am: SunLive readers are reporting a disorder incident at Mount Maunganui involving police.

The incident is reported to be near Hull Road and Totara Street.

Maunganui All Day Kindergarten in Miro Street says the kindergarten went into lockdown.

'We did [go into lockdown], just temporarily,” says a Maunganui All Day Kindergarten spokesperson.
