Ice cream by the beach no more?

Mobile vendors of coffee, hot chips, ice cream and other kerbside foods will be monitoring the Tauranga City Council's decisions tomorrow.

This is when the reviewed mobile shops policy is expected to be ratified at the Tauranga City Council's strategy and policy committee meeting.
The policy is being reviewed because Mount Maunganui residents complained about the number of mobile traders operating from car parking spaces along The Mall in Pilot Bay and Marine Parade during the summer season.
The new policy makes provision for six traders to operate on Marine Parade between Grace and Pacific Avenues, instead of four – but restricts their trading days.
Mobile shops will not be allowed to trade on either The Mall or Marine parade from December 26 till Waitangi Day.
They will also be prevented from trading in front of private residences for more than 30 minutes, and in Salisbury Ave and the Salisbury Avenue car park. In Pilot Bay mobile traders will be restricted to operating from the seaward side of The Mall.
