State Highway 2 through Katikati is open.

The road through the Western Bay of Plenty town, also known as Main Road, was closed when a truck carrying dangerous goods rolled onto a parked car.

Witnesses at the scene reported that no one was in the car when the crash happened around 5.30pm on Monday.

At the time of the crash, police said the truck was carrying flammable goods and the road would be closed for some time to allow to for clean-up.

The road re-opened around 9.15pm on Monday.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
