Truck with flammable goods rolls on SH2

UPDATE: State Highway 2 through Katikati is blocked after a truck has overturned and crashed onto a car.

Emergency services are on site of the crash, which is outside the BP Service Station near Beach Road.

Tauranga City Council reports that major congestion is forming and people should expect delays in the area.

Witnesses at the scene says no one was in the car when the truck rolled onto it.

A police spokesperson says a truck with flammable goods has rolled.

"The road will be closed for some hours. Diversions will be available.

"Police advise motorists to avoid the area."

A post on the Bay of Plenty & Waikato Accidents Facebook page says the car was parked when the truck rolled on top of it.

Diversions are currently being set up and people are being asked to following the directions of emergency services at the scene.

Reports are coming in of an overturned truck near Katikati.

The crash is reported to be near Beach Road.

Emergency services have been called and people are being urged to steer clear of the scene.

....I do hope there is a genuine reason for this happening, because if it is solely down to the skill of the driver at 50kmph or less then the industry really has problems........

This could well have been a catastrophe with multiple deaths if it had landed in the BP servo! Very very good reason to push for the Bypass! New Mayor should be on the soapbox.
