The 2022 senior men's club rugby culminates today with three epic finals.

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union says all three finals will be free entry for spectators and they encourage locals to get down to either Blake Park or the Tauranga Domain to witness the action.

The Western Bay Senior Local Final between Mount Maunganui and Te Puna kicks off at 12.45pm at Blake Park.

The Baywide Colts Final between Tauranga Sports and Greerton Marist kicks off at 1pm at Tauranga Domain.

The main event - the Baywide Premier Final - kicks off at 2.45 pm at Blake Park as Mount Maunganui host Te Puna for the Farmlands Baywide Premier Men's crown.

Mount Maunganui earn a home turf advantage after finishing the competition at the top of the table with a 10-1 record. Their single loss of the season came at the hands of Whakarewarewa, however, the loss was avenged during last week's semi-final, where the Marlins walked away 52-16 victors over the Central Bay side.

"The end score did not reflect the match, which was a tough battle up front," says Mount Maunganui coach Chris Elvin.

"Parity around set piece meant we could give quality ball to our backs. We knew if we could tidy ourselves up from the previous game against Whakarewarewa, we would put ourselves in a good position to win."

Mount Maunganui will chase their first title since 2017, a five-year hiatus that Chris says will bring enormous pride to the club if they can get across the line today.

"It's what club footy players dream about, isn't it? We have an opportunity to put on a show for our whānau and supporters. All of the mahi done in late 2021 and early 2022 comes down to this weekend.

"A win would mean everything."

Te Puna lifted the trophy in 2019 and will aspire to etch another chapter in the club's proud history today.

Te Puna have been alongside Mount Maunganui as the other dominant side of the competition. Sporting a 9-2 record, Te Puna overcame a dangerous Greerton 25-15 to reach their fourth final in five years.

'We are immensely proud of the efforts from the boys. In the past five years the team has been in all five semis and four of the last five finals, so I think the team showed the experience and character to fend off a determined challenge from Greerton Marist,” says Te Puna coach Pere Paul.

'This is a huge occasion for both clubs. An honour for our men to go to war at Blake Park under our maunga Mauao. This is what players dream of - to represent their club in the pinnacle of BOP rugby. So proud of our men and the tireless mahi from the management team.”

For those that can't make it to Blake Park, the premier final will be livestreamed thanks to Local Gecko Productions on the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union Facebook page with coverage starting from 2.30pm.

Curtain raising the Farmlands Premier Men's final will be another Te Puna vs Mount Maunganui final in the Western Bay Senior Local competition. This year's Western Bay Senior Local grade is a combination of the eight premier development teams as well as Katikati, Eastern Districts and Papamoa from the Western Bay Senior Reserves.

Mount Premier Development finished their season undefeated, sporting a 9-0 record with just a single draw which came against Rangataua earlier in the season.

In their semi-final, they played Greerton Marist, where they walked away 20-10 victors.

Te Puna Development finished their season with a 7-3 record. After back-to-back losses to begin their 2022 campaign, Te Puna won seven straight games, which saw them finish second overall on the table.

During their semi-final vs Katikati, Te Puna put on a dominant performance with a 60-3 victory. The Western Bay Senior Local final will kick off at 12.45 pm at Blake Park.

Rounding out finals' day action is the Colts/U85 final. The Colts/U85 competition was resurrected last year with the aim of improving the transition of school leavers into the club scene.

Tauranga Sports are poised to host Greerton Marist at the Tauranga Domain for the chance to win the title.

The round robin was a highly contested affair between both sides and third-placed Mount Maunganui, who all won three games apiece. Greerton and Tauranga Sports were both able to finish the season on 15 points, securing them both tickets to the big dance.

"I'm certain I speak for all involved when I say the induction of Colts/U85s this season has been a good start in rebuilding an important part of club rugby in the Bay of Plenty," says Greerton Manager Brandon Ronald.

"We are looking forward to our battle vs Tauranga Sports, and we are excited to see this competition continue to grow and flourish into the future."

All three finals this Saturday will be free entry for spectators and the BOPRU encourage the public to get down to either Blake Park or the Tauranga Domain to witness the action.
