Wet weather is on the way for the Bay of Plenty, with a low forecast to affect the country later in the week.

Broadly speaking, there will be plenty of fine spells and a gradual warming of temperatures on Tuesday, the MetService said in its latest weather update.

Daytime temperatures will range from the low to mid-20s, although some lingering morning showers are still possible.

A low-pressure system north of New Zealand is expected to move south on Wednesday.

Weather models currently indicate that the centre of the low will remain northwest of New Zealand; however, associated weather will affect NZ shores.

“There is still a lot of uncertainty among the weather models regarding the path this low will take, which means there is some risk of severe weather,” MetService meteorologist Samkelo Magwala said.

“We are keeping a close eye on it and will provide updates as needed.”

The low is expected to affect the upper North Island on Thursday, bringing warm, windy, and wet conditions to Northland and Auckland.

Warm and wet conditions are also forecast for Tauranga on Thursday and Friday.

On Friday, heavy rainfall is expected to continue until late afternoon.

Fine weather is expected to return for the weekend.
