'A very special guest” boosted a training session this week at Bay of Plenty Rugby when basketball star Steven Adams joined the Black Ferns for a session.
Adams, who is currently in New Zealand in a break from the United States NBA where he plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, stopped in Mount Maunganui to train at the Adams High Performance Centre.
New Zealand rugby players from the Black Ferns, grabbed the 2.11m Kiwi star for a photo, which shows Adams wearing bare feet.
The training centre in the Mount which features a science laboratory with heat and altitude chamber, huge gym and recovery pools is the base for the All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens, many of whom live in the Bay of Plenty.
Before he left the US, Adams picked up the NBA Fan Favourites award for assist of the year in the season for a 28-metre pass that is one of the longest assists in the NBA's history.
The 28-year-old basketball hero, who hails from Rotorua, has played in the NBA league for 10 years. In the NBA off-season he runs training camps in New Zealand as well as scholarship opportunities for young Kiwi basketballers.
