A man is facing one count of dangerous driving causing injury following a serious crash in Tauranga.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving a ute and tractor SH29A, near the Maungatapu Road on-ramp on Tuesday, June 14, afternoon.

One person was transported to hospital with critical injuries and the highway was closed for a while, to allow the serious crash unit to examine the scene.

The crash happened at 4.10pm and the road was re-opened at about 6.30pm.

Following an investigation, police have confirmed that a man has been charged.

"A court date is yet to be set."
