Police can now name the woman who died following a crash on State Highway 2, Pongakawa, on Saturday.

"She was Sonia Arena Monistrol, 46, of Otorohanga," says a Police spokesperson.

Police were notified of a single motorcycle crash which occurred around 2.40pm on Saturday May 7 on SH2/ Te Puke East Road, Pongakawa.

The woman was airlifted to hospital but sadly passed away on Saturday night.

Police extend their sympathies to her family and friends.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

"Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash who were travelling in the area at the time so that we can piece together exactly what happened.

"Anyone that has information that can assist Police in our investigation of the crash is encouraged to contact Police on 105 and quote event number P050493720."
