Serious crash closes SH2 near Pongakawa

4.25pm update: A serious crash involving a motorcycle near Pongakawa has resulted in the temporary closure of State Highway 2.

Police were notified of a single motorcycle crash on SH2/ Te Puke East Road, Pongakawa.

"The crash occurred around 2.40pm," says a Police spokesperson.

"Initial indications are one person is seriously injured.

"Traffic management is in place while emergency services attend the scene."

Motorists are advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

Earlier, 3.25pm: There has been a serious crash near Pongakawa which has closed State Highway 2.

NZTA report that the crash is on State Highway 2 Matata to Paengaroa.

Police say that a serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area and SH2 is closed between Pongakawa Station Rd and Benner Rd.

"Please delay your journey or use an alternative route,' says a Police spokesperson.

"Detour may not be suitable for heavy vehicles."

It is unknown at this stage whether there are any injuries.

well 6:30pm and roads still closed. so if you're unsure if theres been injuries, common sense isn't your strong suite. some how crashed on a stretch of straight road. should be compensation for locals living within 5kms for the wasted gas.
