False alarm after Coromandel aircraft crash report

UPDATE 11.30am: Reports of a light aircraft crash in the Coromandel appears to be a false alarm.

Onemana Rural Fire service has advised Coromandel’s CFM that there has been no crash and everyone is fine.

The report states the plane said to be in trouble was in fact a top-dressing plane that had been operating around hills in the area, according to a post on the CFM Facebook page.

EARLIER: Reports are coming in of a light aircraft crash near Whangamata.

Coromandel’s CFM is reporting that emergency services are responding to an incident on Tairua Rd North of Whangamata.

The station says Police have confirmed to them that they have been called to a light plane crash.

“Fire and Emergency and Ambulance are also responding to an incident on Tairua Rd North of Whangamata and in the direction of the Kickdown Festival being held at Joes Farm,” reports a post on the CFM Facebook page.
