Motorists who use State Highway 2 between Waihī and Tauranga are being warned to prepare for 45 to 60 minute delays this week.

Contractors are working to repair, reseal and improve safety along SH2, says a statement from Waka Kotahi Transport Agency.

"Work is underway to repair and upgrade drainage on a 500m section of Takitimu Drive under the Waihī Road / 11th Ave overbridge.

"The road is reduced to one lane in each direction for about three weeks, and the Waihī Road/Takitimu Drive on-ramp and off-ramp (Koromiko Street) will remain closed during the works, with detours in place."

Safety improvement works are also taking place on SH2, between Athenree Road to Tanners Point Road, Rea Road / Tetley Road intersection and Lund Road to Sargent Drive.

Between Athenree Gorge and Te Puna, resurfacing works are being restarted in various locations along SH2.

"The resurfacing sites will be night works between 7pm and 5am under Stop/Go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit.

"For at least 24 hours after the sites are sealed, and before being swept, they continue to operate under a reduced temporary speed limit while vehicles travel over the seal and help 'bed in” the chip."

  • Tuesday 11 January – between Mathers Road and Old Tauranga Road
  • Wednesday 12 January – between Apata Station Road and Sargent Drive

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, works may be postponed.
