State Highway 2 between Opotiki and Gisborne is closed after a truck rolled in the Waioeka Gorge this afternoon.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area with the road set to be closed for at least four hours.

'The road is expected to be closed for some time – at least four hours - while the road is cleared,” says a police statement.

'Motorists are asked to delay their travel and avoid the area.”

Waka Kotahi NZTA is advising that the closure is between Otara and Te Karaka.

They are advising motorists to use State Highway 35 as an alternative route or to delay any journey.
