Serious injuries after campervan crash

UPDATE: One person has been airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition after a crash involving a campervan and two cars in Ōhope.

Another patient, said to be in a moderate condition, is being transported by road to Rotorua Hospital.

"St John treated six patients," says a St John spokesperson.

Four other patients, all in a minor condition, were treated at the scene.

PREVIOUSLY 6.43pm: One person has serious injuries following a crash involving a campervan in Ōhope.

The road is currently closed and five others are being treated for injuries ranging from moderate to minor, according to a St John spokesperson.

Police and emergency services were alerted to the crash on Pohutukawa Avenue shortly before 5.30pm.

Whilst it was initially reported a bus was involved, police now say it was a "large campervan" and two cars.

'The road is blocked and diversions are in place,” says a police spokesperson.

'Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.”

A St John spokesperson confirms that a helicopter is attending the incident with three ambulances also responding.

EARLIER: One person has serious injuries following a crash involving a bus in Ōhope.

The road is currently closed and there is an unspecified number of other patients receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Police and emergency services were alerted to the crash shortly before 5.30pm. A car and a bus are said to have crashed on Pohutakawa Avenue.

'One person has serious injuries and others are being treated for minor injuries,” says a police spokesperson.

'The road will be closed while emergency services attend.”
