One person has suffered serious injuries after a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 2 on Christmas Day.

Police report that the incident involved a car hitting a bridge.

Police and ambulance were notified of the incident at 6.35pm yesterday which occurred in the Minden/Whakamārama area of Tauranga.

'The sole occupant was seriously injured and taken to hospital,” says a police spokesperson.

A Stop/Go system was put in place at the scene at the time but police confirm the road was clear by yesterday evening, around 7.45pm.

Yesterday, a SunLive caller stated that the incident occurred between Barrett Rd and Te Karaka Drive on SH2 and that a firetruck and ambulance were blocking the road.
