Tauranga traffic has been gridlocked around the city following a crash on Hewletts Rd and a lane on the Tauranga Harbour Bridge being closed for hours after a truck crashed through a bridge railing.
All lanes are now open on the Tauranga Harbour Bridge, with a 50 km per hour temporary speed limit in place.
"The traffic at the Mount is munted," says one disgruntled SunLive reader.
Another reader who was visiting a friend at Tauranga Hospital says that it took them an hour to get from Tauranga Harbour Bridge to Gloucester St in Arataki.
"It was one lane on the bridge, with two lanes feeding into one. It's gridlocked from Bayfair roundabout to the city. I went to the hospital this morning from Papamoa through Oropi to get there in time."
Readers also report that Fraser St, Cameron Rd and Devonport Rd have been very busy with motorists using the alternative route to bypass the harbour bridge.
Emergency repairs on the damaged barrier on Tauranga Harbour Bridge will be conducted on Sunday December 5. This will will require a lane closure between 8am-12pm.
Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays on Sunday morning and to avoid the area if possible.

We've got a city council that is fully focused on building a museum and civic centre to improve their lunchtime strolls and funding cycle lanes to reduce road widths at peak times. If you're an employer, don't expect to see your staff turning up to work on time on delivering your goods promptly.

Focus on getting our roads sorted! Traveling for work and school runs is a nightmare at all times, we are already mostly at snail pace, contending with logging tucks, freight trucks, concrete mixers, dump trucks and waste trucks. We have the busiest port in NZ and yet our roads are not coping, we need minimum two lanes each way on all our state highways. The appalling amount of crashes, injuries and deaths along with the backlogs created every time there is an accident is shocking. I I don't know how our emergency vehicles get around to attend incidents, or get to our hospitals in a timely manner? 3.5 hours wait in the car with the kids one morning due to a multiple vehicle nose to tail incident on 29A. When we were finally able, we made our way home, no school that day!
