Helicopters will be seen hovering over Mauao next week as maintenance works on the tracks are carried out.

Tauranga City Council says Mauao will be closed during a number of different times next week.

These include an all mountain closure, to upgrade the Oruahine track in time for the busy summer period.

The Oruahine track will be closed from 7.30am on Monday, November 8, to 5.30pm Friday, November 12.

All of Mauao closed, all tracks, will be closed from 7.30am to 5.30pm on Thursday, November 11 and Friday, November 12.

'This means there will be no public access during this time,” says a council spokesperson.

'As helicopters will be used during these works, the closures are to ensure public safety.

'Signage and barriers will be in place at all closure points. Closures will be weather dependent.
'Access to the summit from Monday to Wednesday will be via the 4x4 track and the Waikorire track.”
