Bay of Plenty residents can look forward to a largely settled and increasingly warm week.
A slow-moving high-pressure system keeps much of the North Island dry, a MetService statement said.
The weather organisation said mainly fine conditions are expected across much of the country through to Friday, although areas of morning fog and low cloud are possible under the settled pattern.
Temperatures are also expected to gradually climb as the week progresses, particularly in eastern parts of New Zealand.
MetService meteorologist Sophie Huntington said the fine spell would be welcome for many, although the continuing lack of rain could be less helpful in already dry areas.
“While many will be making the most of the fine, settled weather, the lack of rain may be less welcome for some. Parts of the country remain on the dry side, with some areas like Northland likely hoping for a little more moisture.”
A front crossing the South Island on Monday is bringing scattered rain to southern and western areas before moving east on Tuesday.
The North Island is expected to remain mostly dry, although patchy light rain is possible along the east coast on Tuesday.
West to southwest winds are forecast across the country, while eastern parts of both islands are expected to enjoy mainly fine weather.
The generally settled conditions are forecast to continue into Friday, providing a promising start to Labour Weekend for many parts of New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wati is a Category 2 system near Aitutaki in the Cook Islands and is tracking southeast.
MetService said the cyclone poses no threat to New Zealand.
