Pilot Bay beach is fenced off this morning.

A reporter at the beach says contractors are putting sand back on the beach as much of it has been eroded away.

"The fenced area extends from the north end of the carpark at Salisbury Wharf to the carpark opposite Pacific Ave.

"There is traffic management in place for the Salisbury Wharf carpark."

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says Pilot Bay is being re-nourished with sand.

"Part of the beach is blocked off today and tomorrow.

"There is still access to the water and people are welcome to swim."

what is the point of putting sand back on the beach at pilot bay, mother nature will only take it away again, that's mother nature at work it will end up in the harbour and then we will be dredging the harbour and taking it out to sea to dump, then we will start all over again and bring more sand to put on the beach, what for.
