Free bus service in BOP, only for essential travel

Bay of Plenty Regional Council are urging people not to travel on public transport unless their journey is absolutely essential.

A spokesperson says essential travel includes healthcare workers getting to and from work and people needing to get to supermarkets or pharmacies.

All bus journeys will be free of charge.

Reduced services will be running from tomorrow to enable essential workers in BOP communities to continue to get where they need to go.

'Your cooperation is crucial if New Zealand's response to COVID-19 is to be effective.”

Public transport services to hospitals will also continue.

Passengers are asked to enter and exit through the backdoors when possible, and to avoid contact with drivers.

'If you do have to travel, please stay at least two metres apart from others and be sure to follow the expert advice on hand washing and other precautions.”

Too big

Ive never seen a bus with more than 5 people in them. Usually none, or one or two. Get rid of these monsters, and bring back some of the smaller ones. These things just block up the road and must cost a fortune

They will cost the ratepayers a fortune if the new mayor has his way and the Hoppers are taken over by TCC !!

Empty buses

Yep seen the empty buses just in case essential workers need to get to work, I imagine many would have there own transport and save themselves time and hassle . Roads quieter and parking less difficult. I wonder if said workers could buz a bus ? A bit of planning and a bus could schedule pick up times to fit with workers shifts or pick up by arrangement. Se strange running buses on the off chance of passengers?.
