A Police patrol car was rammed on Tuesday evening following a pursuit of a vehicle.

Police report that they observed a vehicle losing traction around a roundabout near Te Puke Highway and signalled it to stop.

"The vehicle initially pulled over but then took off at speed," says a Police spokesperson.

"Police initiated a pursuit but it was later abandoned on Te Puke Highway due to road works.

"It was again spotted on Reid Road at which point the vehicle reversed and rammed into the patrol car before continuing on Welcome Bay Road."

The patrol car sustained minor damages.

The vehicle was later found abandoned and Police are conducting enquiries to locate the driver.
