With the completion of the pipe laying works at the eastern end of Welcome Bay Road, the area close to Te Puke Highway roundabout is close to being reopened to traffic.

'To reopen the road, we need to reseal it which means we will need to close the east end of Welcome Bay Road to traffic and pedestrians on Sunday October 13, from 7am to 3pm,” says a council spokesperson.

'Traffic management will be in place from 4.30am, an alternative access route is possible via Kairua Road.

'This work is part of construction for the Waiari Water Supply Scheme.”

Other aspects of construction are progressing, including the installation of pipeline and values continues on Welcome Bay Road and Te Puke Highway; and preparation of the water treatment plant site has started, which means additional truck movements from time to time.

The Poplar Lane slip lane reopened earlier this week.

'We want to extend an apology to anyone this road closure may affect. To have a little impact on traffic as possible, our contractors will be working on Sunday and make every effort to get work completed early.”
