Multiple cars are reported to have crashed on State Highway 29a, near Maungatapu.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says three cars have crashed on the highway.
"It's a bit of a mess. It also looks like there is another crash just up the road.
"People should expect delays."
A police spokesperson says a caller reported that she had been rear-ended by another car.
"There are no injuries reported but it does appear that one lane was partially blocked and two tow-trucks are required to move the cars."

Tailgating in BOP horrendous

I agree 'crash'. I see extremely close tailgating daily on 29a. Either people behind or infront way too close to other vehicles, sometimes traveling at 90-100k with only 1or 2 car lengths in-between! My father taught me (when learning to drive) to have at least a car length in front for every 10 km's speed ie if you are traveling at 40km, have aprox 4 car lenth gap , 80km, have aprox 8 car gap in front of you and the next vehicle (unless of course you are instigating a manoeuvre of overtaking safely within the rules and with 100m clear view throughout the entire manoeuvre) I have found this advise a wonderful way to give plenty of breaking distance and help keep everyone safer on the roads. Always keep a safe distance and always consider and slow your speed to accomodate rain and weather conditions.
Well
