Works to install a new pedestrian crossing on 18th Ave will begin today.

Tauranga City Council says the crossing will be between Fraser Street and Grace Road.

'This crossing will be directly outside the Tauranga Intermediate and Tauranga Special School, and will allow students, parents, teachers and other people travelling through this area to safely cross the road – replacing the current speed hump,” says a council spokesperson.

'To carry out these works with as little inconvenience as possible, construction is planned during the school holidays and is expected to be completed by Friday 11 October, weather permitting.

'To realise the short timeframe of the works, the road will be closed to all traffic between 30 September and 11 October.”

Recommended detours via Grace Road, 16th Avenue and Fraser Street will be signposted.”
