Powerlines trapped a person in their truck after it rolled in the Bay of Plenty just after midnight.

The truck and trailer unit ripped the live lines down when it crashed into a power pole, rolled and landed with the lines across the vehicle trapping him for an hour, says a police spokesperson.

All emergency services attended the scene on Waioeka Rd, 10 minutes south of Ōpōtiki between Pile Rd and Matchitt Rd at about 12.15am on Monday.

"When we got the there the truck has hit the power pole and the lines were lying across the truck," says Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Colin Underdown.

The person remained in the vehicle for about an hour before the lines company turned the power off and Fire could cut them out.

A crane removed the truck at 2am and the road was reopened at 2.30am.
