One dead after hitting tree in Kaingaroa Forest

Update, 10.20am: One person has died following a crash into a tree in the Kaingaroa Forest on Sunday morning.

Emergency services are at the scene of the serious crash on Dun Road, near Kaingaroa Village, where a single vehicle has crashed into a tree.

Police were called about 9.25am.

One person, the sole occupant of the vehicle, has died following the crash.

Dun Road is currently down to one lane while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Earlier 10am:

A serious crash has occurred in the Kaingaroa Forest this morning.

Police were called about 9.25am to the intersection of State Highway 38 and Dun Road, where it appears a car has hit a tree.

NZTA have advised that traffic delays may be possible, and ask drivers to follow directions from emergency services.

It is unknown at this stage whether there are any injuries.

The crash is about 13km southeast of Waiotapu Village.
