A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says they train is back on its journey.

EARLIER:

Traffic delays are being reported in Mount Maunganui this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a train has broken down at the Hewletts Road and Mauganui Road intersection.

"It is right on school time and traffic is backing up, especially along Maunganui Road."

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible or expect delays.
