Motorists travelling along State Highway 2, near Matata, are being warned to expect delays.

A crash in being reported on the highway, between Matata and Awakeri (SH30).

The NZTA says a serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area.

"Delays are possible. An update will be provided as soon as more information is available."

A police spokesperson says police were notified of the crash involving two cars at 8.15am.

"Two people have sustained minor injuries.

"There don't appear to be any road blockages."
