Enquires are ongoing into a car that crashed into a house in Welcome Bay over the weekend.

Police received a report around 3.30am on Saturday that a vehicle had crashed into a house before driving away.

A Welcome Bay resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says the incident occurred on Waikite Road. They say the road is a bit steep and cars fly down there really fast all the time.

The resident stopped and talked to the resident of the house and says a builder was there making everything secure.

'They boarded up the garage and the wall with the hole in it is now boarded up as well so the property is secure.

'There was an empty bourbon and coke can on the lawn, so they obviously had been drinking.”

She says speed would have been a factor because the fence had been demolished and because of the hole in the house.

'It must have been going fairly fast, but the driver didn't stop so nobody got the number plate or anything.”

A police spokesperson says no injuries were reported.

'Officers attended and enquires are ongoing at this time.”
