State Highway 2, between Pahoia Road and Apata Station Road, is open this morning following a serious crash.

One person is in serious condition following a crash on that stretch of highway around 7pm on Thursday.

A police spokesperson says the person has been taken to Waikato Hospital.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to the crash scene to airlift the patient to hospital.

The highway was closed for sometime overnight, as the serious crash unit examined the scene.

NZTA reports the highway was open around 11.30pm.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
