Man in intensive care following Welcome Bay crash

A 27-year old man is in the intensive care unit following an early morning crash in Welcome Bay on Tuesday morning.

The single-vehicle collision occurred on Welcome Bay Road, near James Cook Drive shortly after 3am.

Diversions were in place with the road re-opening around 5.50am.

A Bay of Plenty District Health Board spokesperson says the 27-year-old is in a stable condition in Tauranga Hospital's intensive care unit.

A police spokesperson says an investigation is ongoing regarding the circumstances of the crash.
