SH29 re-opened after car crash

UPDATED 12.04PM: Lanes along State Highway 29 are now re-opened following a crash on the Kaimai Range.

According to the NZTA, it says all lanes are now open.

'Congestion is cleared.”

A police spokesperson says calls came into emergency services shortly before 10:30am.

"It's described as a two-car crash, blocking one lane. One person possibly has some shock, but nothing else in our information suggests there are significant injuries."

Emergency services are working to clear the crash scene.

EARLIER:

State Highway 29 is reported to be blocked in both directions after a crash on the Matamata-side of the Kaimai Range.

Photos sent to SunLive by Mike Cork show traffic delays on the highway and multiple vehicle parked on the side of the road.

Mike says it looks like four cars are involved in the crash, which is located on the Matamata-side of the Kaimai Range.

"It looks like they might shut the road down."

NZTA says the road is blocked in both directions and traffic congestion is expected until the crash scene is cleared.

There are also reports of traffic delays on SH2, near Wairoa Marae.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says traffic is backed up to Gill Lane on the highway.

People are advised to expect delays.
