SH2 closed after serious crash near Bethlehem

Multiple people are reported to have suffered a range of injuries following a serious crash on State Highway 2, near Bethlehem.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area as the road is closed.

"Police are at the scene of a two vehicle crash between Taniwha Place and Wairoa Pa Road," says a police spokesperson.

"Emergency services were alerted to the crash at around 8pm.

"Multiple people reportedly have a range of injuries. Motorists are advised to expect delays or avoid the area."

Police say the road will be closed for sometime.

"We have no exact timeframe at this stage, but we can expect it to be a number of hours."

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.

The NZTA says "due to a crash the road is closed between Te Paeroa Rd and Wairoa Bridge".

"Please delay your journey or use an alternative route if possible. More to follow when known."

Alternative Route

From Bethlehem Westbound: Turn left at the roundabout onto Moffat Rd, continue onto Cambridge Rd, continue onto SH29, turn right onto Poripori Rd, turn right onto Crawford Rd, turn right onto Wairoa Rd, turn left onto SH2. Eastbound in reverse. .
