Bay of Plenty Regional Council has cancelled today's planting day at Maketu, but it's not because of the rain.

The BOP Regional Council posted to their Facebook page on Saturday the bad news and the good news.

'Oh wow! Just incredible thanks everyone! Bad news first - we have had to cancel tomorrow's planting day at Maketu.

'But - good news - the reason is because our incredible volunteers on Thursday and this morning managed to get all the plants in the ground! Wow!”

The Council say that on Thursday the rangatira put in 2000 plants.

'This morning, 55 volunteers put in another 2500,” they wrote in Saturday evening's post.

'Don't despair planters - it is winter so there will be more opportunities soon. Thanks again for all your help. The earth thanks you too.”
