Bay of Plenty residents may have had a rocky start this morning, after two earthquakes hit the region.
The first quake hit within 5km of Rotorua at 3.48am.
According to GeoNet, it had a focal depth of 5km and was a magnitude 2.3.
The second one also struck near Rotorua, this time at 7.12am.
GeoNet says it had a focal depth of 4km and was a magnitude 2.1.
Both earthquakes have been described as 'weak” intensity.
