The Western Bay of Plenty District Council is calling for information on dogs roaming on the beach at Pukehina.

The council has taken to Facebook to say they will be stepping up daily security monitoring of roaming dogs.

'Residents have reported sightings of multiple dogs on the beach with no owners in sight and one person walking on the beach has reported the dogs acting in a threatening manner,” says the council's Facebook post.

'Council is increasing early morning monitoring every day for the next two weeks as well as random monitoring at other times of the day.

'Please call council if you see any dogs unattended on the beach – if possible send us a photo.

'Better still if you have any idea who these dogs belong to – let us know – all information will be treated in confidence.

'We want to catch these dogs and find their owners before any incident occurs.”

If you happen to have any information, you can call the council on their customer services line on 07 571 8008, or email at Customer.Service@westernbay.govt.nz.
