One killed in Te Puke Highway crash

UPDATED 6.57PM: Police can confirm one person has died following the serious crash on the Te Puke Highway, near Te Puke.

The Serious Crash Unit will examine the scene.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says it happened near the AFFCO Freezing Works.

The highway remains closed and diversions are in place at Pah Road and the Tauranga Eastern Link.

UPDATED 6.23PM: The Te Puke Highway is closed following a serious crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two-car crash on the Te Puke Highway, near Te Puke at about 5.40pm.

A police spokesperson says initial indications are one person may be seriously injured.

"The road is closed and diversions will be in place.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area."

Cordons are in place on State Highway 2, near Pah Road and near the Tauranga Eastern Link, says a reporter at the scene.

Reports are coming in of a crash that has happened on the Te Puke Highway.
