One person has been critically injured following a crash on State Highway 27, north of Matamata.

The emergency services are responding to the crash at the intersection of State Highway 27 and Kereone Road after being alerted at around 11.35am today.

A police spokesperson says The Serious Crash Unit is in attendance and part of State Highway 27 is currently closed.

"Diversions are in place at Maungakawa Road for southbound traffic, and at Walton Road for vehicles travelling north.

"Motorists are being asked to expect delays and avoid the area if possible."

At this stage there is no information regarding the number of vehicles involved or any other injuries.
